About
NFPA 850 is a recommended practice developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) that provides guidelines for fire prevention and protection in electric generating plants and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter stations. This standard is applicable to facilities utilizing fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas, as well as alternative fuels like biomass and solid waste. It does not apply to nuclear power plants (addressed in NFPA 805) or hydroelectric plants (covered by NFPA 851).
