Tell us a little bit about your childhood and where you grew up.
I grew up in the Boston area, the oldest of twelve children. I attended parochial school.
What sort of cultural, spiritual, or social value do you think reading and books hold?
Books remind us of how rich and diverse the world around us is, they open the door to our imagination, and they introduce us to new ideas and attitudes.
What made you realize that you wanted to be a writer?
From a very young age I knew that I wanted to be a writer. As a young person, I spent countless hours at the library reading everything I could find on history, literature, philosophy , and mystery.
What does writing mean to you?
Writing for me is like breathing. I have to write each and every day, even if it is only a sentence or two.
Who inspired the character of Autumn Goldleaf, drag queen extraordinaire?
Autumn was inspired by a drag queen I met on my travels.
What challenges did you face while publishing your debut novel?
Besides the usual rejections from agents, I was challenged by an individual for writing a book that revolved around the LGBTQ+ community. In the end, I received overwhelming support and encouragement from friends and family who are members of the LGBTQ+ community.
What was your thought process while writing "All Hail the Queen"?
I knew I wanted to write a mystery that represented drag queens as real people with interests outside of drag. I also wanted All Hail the Queen to be something most mystery lovers would find enjoyable and a little funny.
What advice would you like to give writers who are struggling with their first novels?
Don't give up even if others try to discourage you. And, if you think what you've written is crap, that's okay! Keep going and don't give up!
Do you ever leave book reviews on other author's books? What do reviews mean to you?
Yes, I do because reviews encourage and they help an author improve their writing skills.
Have you ever met a fan on the street or in a random public place?
I met a fan at my local library. What's the best compliment a reader has ever given you? A fan from Florida wanted to send me money to help me attend more book signing venues. I had to turn down her generous offer but I was so touched by her kindness that I cried.
How do you feel about the rise in digital books in recent years?
While I personally prefer the feel and smell of a traditional book, I see nothing wrong with digital books. I'm in the process of reading one on my Kindle.

On any normal day, what would you be doing if you weren't writing?
I'd probably be reading a book by one of my favourite authors or puttering around in my garden or playing with my dog.
What are you working on at the moment? What is it about?
I have two writing projects underway. One is book three in the Drag Queen Mystery series. The story takes place in Las Vegas where Autumn, Cookie, and friends are performing in a drag extravaganza. Of course, there's a murder or two that our sleuths get involved in. There might also be a bit of romance for both Autumn and Cookie.
