Giving that character a believable back story. It's easier to write about males because I am one. Writing a female character needs a somewhat different attitude if that makes any sense.
Stay focused on your goals as a writer. Don't let anyone tell you to give up even when things get tough. And most of all have fun with writing your story, don't treat it as a job.
Try to write at least 2,000 words a day. Sounds tough but try to write in a place where you will be uninterrupted. Write a compelling story that will have your readers captivated. Most of all edit, edit, edit, is very important.
To be honest I don't find it that important to research characters when writing fiction. In my mind I already know how my characters should act and react to certain situations they are placed in. That however would be a different story when writing nonfiction. You more than likely would need to do research on the person you may be writing about.
In all honesty, I think you need a catchy book title one that corresponds with the story you're writing. A good book cover is a must if it doesn't catch the readers eye, more than likely the reader will pass up your book.
