I just knew I could do a better job than some of the sloppy, badly written romances I'd been reading. For me, it's all about the characters. If I like the protagonist, then for sure I'll want to finish the book.
Absolutely, it's the same for me. If the protagonist feels real and compelling, the story flows from there. That connection is what drives both the writing and the reading. When I started with Gereon Rath, it was because I wanted to follow him, not just solve a mystery.
I wrote my first novel, Der nasse Fisch (The Wet Fish), back in 2007. It was the beginning of the Gereon Rath series, and a chance to explore a time and place that fascinated me deeply.
What about you? When did you write your very first story or novel? I’d love to hear how your journey began.
