BIOGRAPHY

Glenn grew up in Chicago, glued to the TV watching Dark Shadows every summer afternoon. In that highly rated vampire soap opera, Barnabas Collins first ignited Glenn's interest and passion for vampires.

More romantic and erotic vampire stories, such as Dracula and the many films by Hammer, set his passion for vampire stories ablaze. That same passion still lives today in his many writings. His favorite story is "Blood Relations," where his vampire comes from another planet, is marooned on Earth, and is forever searching for love.

When Glenn isn't writing, he's shoppin... g with his wife of 35 years or watching vampire-themed movies. He's most interested in the passion shown in these movies.

Glenn wishes every writer much success and every reader a ride into the many new worlds that await them!

Glenn Stevens Interview On 10, Nov 2020

"A storm spotter licensed private pilot and a fiction writer, Glenn Stevens grew up in Chicago glued to the TV watching Dark Shadows every afternoon. His writing style is relaxed and conversational, making the read quick and easy. With the release of every book, Glenn gets a step closer to his dream of writing the best vampire-themed stories."
Which is your fondest memory while growing up in Chicago?

I loved going downtown and visiting Michigan Avenue during Christmas and seeing all the holiday decorations, then listening to the holiday music as I shopped or dined down there. During summers I remember being tied to the family TV watching Dark Shadows every weekday afternoon.

Did you not ever get bored while watching Dark Shadows every summer afternoon?

No, I was captivated by this soap opera. Barnabas Collins was the first character to introduce me to vampires and their seductive, hypnotizing, sexy forms. I was hooked and looked forward to every new show.

When did the trend of portraying vampires as not purely evil creatures begin?

For me I think it was with Dark Shadows. It was the first vampire show I ever watched. I never saw Barnabas as evil. Now there certainly are many evil versions of vampires out there and an audience for each of them but those gorier versions never appealed to me. I always saw the more sexual, seductive side. And being an armchair scientist, I tried to make sense of the vampire traits. Things like how did the vampire survive, why did the vampire prefer to bite the neck, why were women more often portrayed to be the victim, why blood, why kill off the only food supply, and how do you live for hundreds of years without lasting companionship? As I wrote Blood Relations, I answered those questions. One idea that formed was creating a vampire that craved Oxytocin, the love hormone created in the brain, hence answering why bite the jugular right?

According to you, what makes Barnabas Collins such a Fan Favorite?

I think he was more sexual and realistic as a character. He had emotions, and feelings. He wasn’t a monster, at least not to most who knew him. He needed to fit in to a degree which forced him to act more secretive. They say everyone sees things differently so that’s how I saw Barnabas. And that helped me see vampires in a different light from a young age. The successful series True Blood was another favorite for similar reasons. I once emailed Charlene Harris because I thought she stole some of my main ideas about vampires until I saw she wrote her stories years before I wrote mine and then I realized many writers follow similar paths creating their stories and some of us even think the same way. The main difference with my story vs. True Blood is in Blood Relations it’s the vampire’s venom that heals people and in True Blood it’s the vampire’s blood. In my upcoming sequel readers will learn my vampire’s blood will most certainly turn one into a vampire but it will make the person crazy too.

What makes "Blood Relations" your favorite story?

That’s a loaded question! Maybe because I wrote it, LOL! In a way that is true because when we create something, we want it to be the best with every bell and whistle that can be found. It is certainly true with Blood Relations.

In short, Blood Relations is like going to a Fantasy Island Amusement Park on steroids. It’s a funny, happy story. It has rides like an amusement park, all the tastiest foods from around the world and entertainment like a cruise ship. The resort is packed with gambling, loose slot machines, fun activities like sailing, golfing, or jet skiing. One can ride a two-mile long lazy river, sip drinks at various watering holes along the river, take in a free concert, dance, swim with dolphins, borrow sports cars to travel, and free admission to all area attractions. And did I mention everything is free while staying there? And if I missed anything, that’s there too! If that wasn’t enough, donors also receive the best health, dental, life insurance available for their families for free. Over the ten years I wrote Blood Relations I thought about what it would be like to be a multi-billionaire vampire. The money wasn’t the issue but the loneliness that came from losing every friend and loved one was. So I wanted to give the wealth away and search for cures to every illness humans faced including stopping the aging process. And then there’s the need for blood, which really was love and energy that kept him alive. But the story really aims at making the reader feel good.

What are the advantages of getting a private pilot license (PPL)?

My pilot’s license has very little to do with my writing but in some chapters in the sequel we do go on a few rides in a Cessna where I pull on some of my training and experience.

What inspired the plot of the book, Blood Relations: A New World?

I love the vampire character. I think this is the ultimate character in any love story. It’s life and death, love and sacrifice of the highest caliber. A female character who would give her life to save the one she loved and vice versa. It sex, seduction, temptation, suspense, beauty all wrapped up in desire. I can never get enough of it so I wrote my own story.

What challenges did you face while writing "Vampire Stories and Poems"?

This book is a compilation of several short stories I wrote over the years. Most were contest entries I wrote, many of which received praise.

Is the character of Lori in Vampire Landlord inspired from a real person?

No, not really. She is just a character I created as I wrote the story. But I do have a few Lori’s in almost all of my books. Hmm. Maybe I should rename these stories and call them Lori’s Adventures!

What were some misconceptions you had about the book and publishing industry before you became a published author?

I’m a member of a world-wide writer’s group. I’m even a reviewer on the site. The encouraging feedback there made me feel like I was this incredibly awesome writer. That was until I went outside of that cocoon and jumped into the real world. The rejections came in by the hundreds. At first, I was surprised and hurt but I toughened up and after I had enough brow-beatings I went the self-publishing route. I also made audiobooks. Professional editing services are expensive and for most writers don’t make enough money to cover the costs of a website let alone editing services. Since all my writing was vetted by many readers offering feedback and suggestions over periods of years, I felt it was time to get the stories out there before I died.

How do you maintain that equilibrium between writing what you want and what your readers want?

I have asked readers what they want, but I’ve been lucky so far. I must be giving them what they want as there has been no feedback there.

Which is your favorite place to shop with your wife?

We both love going to our local Barnes and Noble.

Who would win? A werewolf vampire hybrid or Dracula?

Dracula hands, or is that claws, down!

What are your plans for the future as a writer? Are you working on anything new?

Yes, still plugging away on my sequel to Blood Relations. The sequel is actually the main book but when I finished it I wanted to add a prologue to show where Eros, the main character, came from and how he got there. That prologue turned into 145,000-word book, known as Blood Relations. Now I must update the first book so it’s in synch. I made a lot of discoveries and need to carry them over. So, the sequel is done but just needs a lot of updating work. It too is 145,000 words.

How has your experience of being associated with AllAuthor been?

It’s been nothing short of AWESOME. I love the GIF animations, all the images they create for me to share, the contests, weekly mockup banners, retweets and much more. I get so much value for the small cost. I love AllAuthor!
